Martin Brosseau: Young Professional Style Profile

With the official inauguration of F1 2013 in Montreal, it’s always fun to reminisce of Grand Prix years gone by. Amid the majestic madness (lavish cars, incessant parties, street festivals, cheering and throngs of revelers), there are a few who always stand out from the crowd. One of these select few is Martin Brosseau

With the official inauguration of F1 2013 in Montreal, it’s always fun to reminisce of Grand Prix years gone by. Amid the majestic madness (lavish cars, incessant parties, street festivals, cheering and throngs of revelers), there are a few who always stand out from the crowd. One of these select few is Martin Brosseau, who made a name for himself through his unforgettable parties – like a Veuve Cliquot creation at Velvet Speakeasy complete with live swimming gold fish. Martin, who has mastered the art of the starched collar, perfect hem, and non-existent wrinkle, looks like a GQ page come to life. Every item he owns has been carefully hand-picked or meticulously hand-crafted.

Today Martin has taken his passion for fashion beyond the party scene and spun it into an evolving career. With a distinct identity, both fashion and otherwise, this mystique character knows how to expresses himself very fluidly through his style. Taking a break from his stylish life in New York for an F1 visit, Martin took a few minutes to answer our questions:

Job: Styling Assistant to the great Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Visual Merchandising at Saks Fifth Ave, Freelance Buyer at POS management, full-time enfant terrible and husband to Kimberly Kitty; all this in preparation to launch his line when the time comes

Currently wearing: Vintage army jacket, bespoke suit, tom ford shirt, sunglasses and tiger of Sweden tie.

Favourite labels: Joe Fresh, Saint Laurent Paris, Uniqlo, Hermes, Tom Ford, Belgian shoes, Brian Lichtenberg at Editorial.

Fashion and beauty pet peeves: Hygiene issues, hipsters with beards, fake old things, lack of authentic substance.

What’s in his closet? Me a few years ago, but now I have Terry cloth polos and matching bathing suits in all colours from Joe Fresh, which I had monogrammed on the Upper East Side, crisp skinny black jeans, Prada and Saint Laurent size 30, destroyed vintage Levi’s, a few white Tom Ford French cuff shirts, black Kway Raglan sleeve packable raincoat, black Saint Laurent Caban, black, white and navy Lanvin underwear and t-shirts, cashmere and sea island cotton John Smeldley crew necks and long sleeve polos that button all the way down, always a fresh tuxedo with a black velvet gilet, navy blue wool double-breasted suit, black riding jacket, Belgian shoes, Gucci Cuban heeled boots, black Saint Laurent sneakers, Black Uniqlo sweatsuit and breathable t-shirts, a Brian Lichtenberg HOMIES crew neck sweatshirt in white with gold foil from Editorial Boutique.

Cities that influence his style? Hong Kong, New Delhi, Paris, and the streets around the world; I can be inspired anywhere. Mostly, I am inspired by authentic people, their personalities and what they have to say.

What is his style advice for young professionals? Be fit, be yourself and be confident. Find your style and stick to it. Go to Flyjin. Be irreplaceable, be different; “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different” – Coco Chanel.
