If you’re looking to catch a game and unwind with a refreshing pint, look no further than the Dog and Bear, a lively British sports bar on Toronto’s bustling Queen Street West. Here you can relax in one of the spacious crushed velvet booths, watch every major sports game on one of the many flat screens and dine on traditional English pub food. The walls are adorned with Victorian-era portraits of the Royal Family, old sports memorabilia, and even a stuffed bear. After one visit you’ll understand why so many people consider this one of the best sports bars in Toronto.
Those who arrive hungry are definitely in luck — the entire food menu has been curated by VICE Munchies host and executive chef Matty Matheson. The menu features everything from starters and salads, burgers and sandwiches, wings, and an assortment of mains. We recommend giving the bangers and mash or the full English breakfast a try for a real taste of British fare. To accompany your meal you can choose from an impressive selection of 20 beers on tap that includes lagers, craft beers, stouts, pilsners and IPAs. Don’t worry if you don’t feel like drinking beer — there’s plenty of ciders, wines, and cocktails to choose from.
Richard Lambert and Jesse Girard are the masterminds behind the sports bar, and along with a few notable friends that include Kenny Hotz (Kenny VS. Spenny) and Stefan “Snake” Brogren (Degrassi), The Dog and Bear has become a welcomed addition to the Social Group family that includes Parts and Labour, P&L Burger and The Hoxton. Be advised that if you come to watch an evening game on the weekend, once the major games wrap up the sports crowd will transition into the club crowd, and the floor will turn into a bumping dance floor.
