Arriving late morning to this gorgeous street-side spot off Melville, the Loden Hotel has long been a destination for some of the city’s hippest private parties thanks to their stunning rooftop deck and penthouse suite that is often converted for such occasions. We’ve often been privy to an invitation, though have admittedly neglected to hop next door to neighbouring Tableau Bar Bistro (1181 Melville Street) for late-night bites and cocktails (which never disappoint).
We quickly settled in for a morning of indulgence, opting for a table on their sundrenched patio. Foregoing a mimosa or bacon Caesar, we kept it clean with fresh organic juice and tea. Sipping away while mulling over delectable offerings, we soaked up Tableau’s laidback atmosphere in the heart of bustling downtown Vancouver.

After hearing about the brunch specials, we opted to start things off with a few sharables: freshly baked croissants accompanied by prosciutto-wrapped spring asparagus with a frisee salad tossed in lemon vinaigrette. A perfect way to awaken our taste buds!
Plates arrived well-timed, giving us ample opportunity to enjoy each bite (and plenty of time to catch up with good conversation). Next up, we labored over our main plate options… so much to choose from.
Would it be eggs Benedict, poached egg and duck confit, apple and cheddar soufflé pancake or the decadent-sounding buttermilk French toast with crème anglaise?

The brunch options at Tableau are unique and mouth-wateringly good, but we went with a few staff recommendations: their mushrooms on toast (topped with sunny-side up fried egg on toasted brioche), and French toast. Both wowed our palates.
Brunch at Tableau is, simply put, a must-do. If you can’t score a spot on their patio, plenty of tables await you inside. The room is reminiscent of a classy NYC-style bistro with neatly appointed artwork throughout and an air of sophistication we think you’ll love. It’s buzzing with activity, and neighbouring Loden Hotel is a favourite with celebs – so keep your eyes peeled and prepare to do some serious people watching.
