WhatsApp Finally Launches Desktop App for Mac and Windows

Yet another blow for ICQ.

On the same day that Instagram changed its logo, WhatsApp is now available on your Mac or Windows desktop, having just released a native app that lets you message friends and family while your phone stays in your pocket. (Or, more likely, on your desk right beside your computer.)

With many millennials already using WhatsApp as their primary vehicle of text-based interaction, the desktop app makes it that much easier to be perpetually plugged into the socialsphere. All that’s missing now is a WhatsApp module embedded into your retina.

And, hey, we could all use a little more time away from our phones – even if we’re essentially doing the same thing on a bigger screen.

The app is especially useful for long conversations – like typing out a breakup on your physical keyboard versus texting “it’s not you, it’s me” in the name of brevity – and to mask social interactions on company time. Indeed, planning a date with your lover now looks just like filling out a spreadsheet to anyone without direct view of your screen.

You can download WhatsApp for your computer here.
