Toronto Weekender: July 4 through 7, 2013

We're still working on de-puffing and detoxifying after the long weekend that was, but there's no rest for the weary, and we most certainly are not weary young professionals. Here's what's demanding our attention this weekend

We’re still working on de-puffing and detoxifying after the long weekend that was, but there’s no rest for the weary, and we most certainly are not weary YPs. Here’s what’s demanding our attention this weekend…

Thursday
Starting Thursday and running through Sunday, the Toronto Urban Roots Festival is set to blow our minds with a consortium of bands all running the gamut from indie to alterna. She & Him (Zooey Deschanel’s duo), The Arkells, Neko Case and so many more are ready to amp up the melodies this weekend.

The Fringe Festival began earlier this week, and if you’re a die-hard play-o-phile you’ll want to take note. With some 148 shows at 35 different venues, there’s a stage consortium for any taste. You’ll want to do your best to catch a couple shows of our city’s most talented performing their hearts out on the stages.

Friday
Summerlicious officially kicks off on Friday, and we’re already salivating. Over 190 of the city’s best restaurants, pubs, and eateries are taking part, offering up three-course prix fixe meals for the grumbly tummies of the city. Start making your reservations as some of the hottest meals are already difficult to come by.

The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition launches Friday and runs through Sunday at Nathan Phillips Square. Featuring dozens of our most prestigious up-and-coming talent and mainstays on the arts scene, the Outdoor Art Exhibition is one summer fest we always die to check out.

Saturday
Viva Italia! The Corso Italia Festival takes to the streets this weekend, blocking off a good chunk of St. Clair West between Dufferin and Landsdowne. Food vendors, live entertainment, street style, family fun and so much more awaits at this annual fest celebrating everything and anything Italy.

New fave band fun, alongside Tegan & Sara, will be going cray cray for the crowds over at Downsview Park. What a great pairing! These two acts are sure to round out the weekend like nobody’s business, and you’ll get to groove out to their interesting sounds and beats while basking in the (hopefully) summer sun.

The Temptation Ball wants you to indulge, delight and give in to the 7 Deadly Sins on Saturday night over at the Burroughes Building. An open bar and hors d’oeuvres will help set the scene as you waft through the room like a harlequin hero. Proceeds help support arts education for underprivileged children in Canada.

Sunday
Get your beer on this Sunday at the Ottawa Market // Beer Mashup at Parkdale Park. This event sees breweries from Ottawa and Toronto pairing up to make some awesome one-off brews for all you thirsty notables out there. Get there early… these collaborative craft brews are bound to run out fast.

Starting this Sunday and running through August, the Christie Pits Film Festival presents you a chance on the West End to watch fave movies outdoors under the night sky. The fest kicks off with That Thing You Do!, the Tom Hanks classic boy band coming-of-age story set back in the day. We can’t wait to pack up a few roadies, some Smart Food, and head on over to Christie Pits.
