Toronto Weekender: December 12 through 15, 2013

We're halfway through the month, which means we're ever nearing the break that'll see us YPs heading away from the city and going home for the holidays. Til then, let's all get out there and soak up as much seasonal spirit as possible

We’re halfway through the month, which means we’re ever nearing the break that’ll see us YPs heading away from the city and going home for the holidays. Til then, let’s all get out there and soak up as much seasonal spirit as possible.

Thursday
Tonight at the Virgin Mobile Mod Club, get into the giving mood at the Christmas Soul Revue. This charity fundraiser supports the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. The Christmas Soul Revue features The St. Royals amazing 16-Piece Superband, so be sure to don your festive attire and head over for some holiday tidings.

Friday
More upscale bar food comes to Leslieville’s quaint area in the form of Brooklyn Tavern. An approachable North American-themed menu forms the basis of the eats, ranging from giant meatballs filled with pulled pork to popcorn with smoked paprika and Manchego cheese. Over 30 beers round out the Brooklyn Tavern experience, which is reason enough to check it out on Friday night.

The uber-cool Rapp Battlez is back on Friday night over at Comedy Bar. It’s almost the winter solstice and Rapp Battlez is a sordid affair that loves the nightlife. Ten rap-stars will be going head to head, or rather, spit to spit, as they dust off rhymes for the end of the season.

Saturday
Twenty-one local Etsy artisans will be on display Saturday afternoon as the first annual Christmas Marketplace by the Etsy Street Team takes over the Church of Saint Stephen-in-the-Field. Find a slew of unique gift ideas (or just I-want-it-for-myself finds) at this holiday showcase.

Why not go a li’l luxe this Saturday and head north to Auberge du Pommier, where award-winning chef Marc St. Jacques has introduced a crazy delicious sounding Celebration Menu with forgotten faves like caviar, white truffles, foie gras, and Kobe beef. Heck, the menu itself is reason enough to celebrate.

The Thompson Hotel is the place to be Saturday night with another fundraiser/toy drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. Bring a few unwrapped gifts along for kids, then get ready to get wild as three floors with three different sounds rock the boutique hotel.

Sunday
At Yonge and Gerrard you’ll now find Duke’s Refresher + Bar, a new restobar concept that’s bringing a better selection of eats to the otherwise dismal stretch of Yonge Street. With an “epic breakfast” on weekends, and lunch and dinner service throughout the week, expect Duke’s to become a hotspot for tourists and locals alike. Feel like eating epically this Sunday…?

The 21st annual 401 Artisans Marketplace is showcasing craft-making, art, and design at its finest on Sunday afternoon. This creative hub in the heart of downtown Toronto is host to almost 30 local makers offering unique gifts for the holiday season. Meet the artisans in a festive atmosphere, and perhaps you’ll be able to cross everyone off your list!

Conversely, skate, shop, eat, drink and celebrate winter with Evergreen and Junction Flea at the Outdoor Winter Market. Bundle up for this one-day outdoor holiday market and lace up for the season opening of Evergreen’s outdoor ice rink.
