Self Driving Trucks That Look Like Something From Transformers Have Been Approved for Road Travel

After taking a look at the luxe interior of Daimler's new line of self-driving trucks, we have a feeling there'll soon be a shift in the type of person "driving" big rigs across the country. Seriously, it's like a boutique hotel on wheels

We’ve taken another big step towards a driverless future – and it’s hella’ flashy.

Nevada officials have approved Daimler’s autonomous Freightliner Inspiration Truck, probably inspired by Optimus Prime, to operate on the desert state’s public roads.

Taking a look at truck’s luxe interior, it’s not hard to imagine a future where tech-happy millennials occupy the cockpits of big rigs that were once helmed by rugged, more ‘trucker’ types. As Daimler predicts, drivers will have time to focus on other tasks – playing on an iPad, apparently – while a computer does most of the actual driving.

The company received license plates for a fleet of self-driving trucks on Tuesday after one completed a successful climb to the top of the Hoover Dam in a demonstration of the technology.

Perhaps even more impressive, though is the aesthetic. Just look at this thing…
