Every year, the colour company Pantone chooses a colour that’s supposed to embody next year’s vibe.
This was the year of Classic Blue, for example, which instills calm, confidence, and connection. It was a terrible choice.
After the year we’ve head, let’s hope Pantone is a little more Nostradamus for 2021. Again, the company opted for optimism. And even chose two colours: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating. Sweatpants and sunshine.
“As people look for ways to fortify themselves with energy, clarity and hope to overcome the continuing uncertainty, spirited and emboldening shades satisfy our quest for vitality,” explained Pantone.
Illuminating is a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power.
Ultimate Gray is emblematic of solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation.
“No one color could get across the meaning of the moment,” said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “We all realized we cannot do this alone. We all have a deeper understanding of how we need each other and emotional support and hope.”
While Pantone’s colour of the year is more trend forecasting than societal prognosis, in what else should we invest our hope? The stars?
