Notable Now this week in Vancouver: Vancouver’s Sustenance Festival, Whistler's Annual Turkey Sale, Fright Nights at the PNE, Beerlesque IV, the Turkey Trot, and Toast to the Coast

Vancouver’s Sustenance Festival (now until October 19th, various locations)
The Vancouver Sustenance Festival focuses on making connections in your communities through a series of events focused on food from foraging to preservation and everything in between. This city-wide festival includes everything from food-inspired art exhibits to local food workshops, talks, walks, dances and more – all taking place in community centres and public spaces throughout Vancouver, and many of them free of charge. There are more than sixty events in this 6th year of the biggest Vancouver Sustenance Festival yet.

Annual Turkey Sale (Whistler)
If you’re on the hunt for a fresh set of skis or in need of a newer board to carve it up this season, be sure to make the drive up to Whistler to check out the annual Turkey Sale this weekend. What more of a reason could you need to enjoy a day (or overnight) out of town? They’ve got all the best brands, steep discounts and plenty of options to have you pining for powder days in no time. Fright Nights at the PNE (2901 East Hastings Street)
Vancouver’s largest annual Halloween attractions are back starting this weekend at the PNE with seven different haunted houses, live shows, the Kinshira Fire Performers, themed rides and new Keepers Doll Factory house that is guaranteed to freak you out. Tickets are $25-$55 for entry. Beerlesque IV (181 Roundhouse Mews)
This weekend, gear up for a raucously good time at this party that brings the best of BC craft beer together with top burlesque performances. The tassels will twirl, the sparkle will glimmer, and beer from more than 25 breweries is guaranteed to flow. Take in one of the many shows, catch live music featuring alt-country-gypsy-circus band Blackberry Wood, win prizes for best costume, and more. All proceeds to go to Roundhouse Community Programs; for additional info click here

Turkey Trot (Granville Island, October 10th)
Run off those extra calories from Thanksgiving dinner and register for this weekend’s 10-km course that winds its way along the False Creek Seawall. It’s a picturesque (flat) course that attracts thousands of runners. Post-race, feast on gourmet food and hang out with other participants while taking in live entertainment. Funds raised go to support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. For details and to register, click here.

Coming up: Toast to the Coast (845 Avison Way, October 17th)
Tickets are almost sold out to the annual gala fundraiser that takes over the Vancouver Aquarium. Don’t miss your chance to indulge in an evening of live music, gourmet bites courtesy of Ocean Wise restaurants, and plenty of B.C. wines as you help raise money for the Vancouver Aquarium’s ongoing efforts to educate and raise awareness of the conservation of our oceans. This year there is even more to sip, savour and explore with a new VIP lounge, bigger and better after party, and more. For more info and tickets, click here.
