Notable Now Vancouver: July 11, 2014

Notable Now this week in Vancouver: FUSE, Khatsahlano Block Party, Wiener Dog Races, Eat Local, the must-attend SUNWAVE, and one of our favourite food-fuelled festivals of the year, Food Cart Fest

FUSE (Friday, July 11, the Vancouer Art Gallery)
Don’t miss the first FUSE event at the VAG this summer. This adults-only, after hours event melds art, music and live performances together perfectly and is always a must-do. The Gallery is transformed for a fun night loaded with DJs, eclectic gallery tours, outdoor lounge, bar service and more. Fake Plastic, this summer edition of FUSE, is all about pop culture in the 21st Century and features a free outdoor performance on Robson Street in addition to the in-house party. Purchase tickets and learn more here.

Khatsahlano Block Party (July 12th, Kitsilano)
The West 4th Avenue Khatsahlano Street Party is Vancouver’s largest free music and arts festival that last year saw nearly 120,000 people in attendance. This amazing neighbourhood festival features eight stages for live music, stretches across 10 city blocks and offers up plenty of variety. Aside from the numerous local restaurants and patios, visit one of more than 40 food trucks, listen to 50 different local bands and check out hundreds of local vendors and merchants. New this year: three beer gardens courtesy of Mill Street Brewing to keep your thirst quenched. Learn more here.

Wiener Dog Races (Hastings Racecourse, July 12, 13)
Back for another hilariously fun day of track-side fun and festivities, Schenider’s presents the Annual Wiener Dog Races at Hastings Racecourse this weekend and it is not to be missed. Have a dachshund? Enter them – or borrow someone else’s for the day. With more than $2500 in prizing up for grabs, it’s serious business for the winning wiener. First race starts at 1:50pm and all the details can be found here.

Eat Local (various locations)
Score plenty of locally made and grown goods at one of Vancouver’s farmers markets this weekend throughout Vancouver. Having just reopened, be sure to visit the Main Street Farmers Market and check out the ongoing Berry Festival (for the month of July). Don’t miss the West End, Kitsilano and Trout Lake farmers markets too. See what’s on at all of our local markets here.

SUNWAVE (July 12th, Wreck Beach)
This weekend marks the first of a series of beachfront celebrations as part of Vancouver’s pop-up outdoor electronic events dubbed SUNWAVE. It’s a waterfront musical showcase featuring a stacked line-up of international and Canadian artists and is located five minutes from Wreck Beach at Koerner’s Secret Garden. Recharge with organic drinks, grab a bite from their BBQ ,and nab a cold one at their bar while there. Find more info here.

Food Cart Fest (July 13th, 215 W. 1st Ave)
Food Cart Fest is back for another summer full of food-fuelled fun in the heart of False Creek’s Olympic Village. On from 12pm-5pm every Sunday throughout the summer, this festival gathers over 20 of Vancouver’s top food carts presented by Arrival and The Streetfood Vancouver Society. It’s a full afternoon of food, fun, and sun complemented by community markets, live music and DJs, craft food vendors, live entertainment activities and more. Find all the details here
