Montreal’s Osheaga Music Festival Bans First Nations Headdresses

Many music festival-goers make a lot of very questionable sartorial expressions.

Most are harmless, but some are outright tasteless.

Like sporting a First Nations headdress, a spiritual and cultural symbol of native culture, as a fashion accessory.

Which is why Montreal’s Osheaga festival, Canada’s top showcase of musical talent, has decided to ban wearing them altogether at this year’s edition.

Per Facebook:

Please note that First Nations Headdresses are not permitted at the festival. The First Nations Headdresses have a spiritual and cultural meaning in the native communities and to respect and honour their people, Osheaga asks fans and artists attending the festival to not use this symbol as a fashion accessory.

Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation.

Cue the applause.
