If You’re Not Earning Starpoints, You’re Doing It Wrong

Let’s be honest, when it comes to travelling, doing it right is the only way to do it. Knowing the notable places to eat, sleep, and play are the kind of things that can instantly turn any trip into your next great adventure. Part of that whole 'doing it right' thing is also collecting Starpoints

Let’s be honest, when it comes to travelling, doing it right is the only way to do it. Knowing the notable places to eat, sleep, and play are the kind of things that can instantly turn any trip into your next great adventure.

But when it comes to getting away, there are endless options out there. It seems like every experience has to have its own rewards card. From hotels to restaurants, everywhere you go you’re constantly being asked for your membership. Travelling as much as I do, I knew I had to find a way to cut through the clutter. So now, when I go anywhere, I only have to rely on one card to get me everything I need: the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express.

Basically, every time I use the card I accumulate Starpoints. Some pretty simple math, really: I spend $1, I receive 1 Starpoint. These Starpoints can then be used for flights and hotels all over the world, so obviously this is where it gets pretty exciting. Over 150 airlines accept them as currency with no blackout dates.

Here are a few benefits of the SPG Amex Card I’d definitely call notable:

Exceptional Rewards
The options for hotels are abundant and include high-end choices like St. Regis, Luxury Collection, W Hotels, Sheraton, Westin, Four Points by Sheraton, Element, and Aloft. (Who doesn’t appreciate high thread count?) In fact, the Starwood Preferred Guest program has over 1,100 properties to choose from and they’re all beautiful, so classing it up is always an option. And hey, I’m not complaining.

Starwood Gold Preferred Guest “Status”
If you’re a moderate to high spender, then this is more than moderately relevant to you. After you reach $30K in purchases within a year, you automatically receive the “Gold Status,” which means some excellent things are coming your way:

– 4 p.m. late checkout, when available.
– An enhanced room at check-in, when available.
– Special elite customer service telephone line (available in most countries).
– Your choice of a welcome gift with each stay. Choose from bonus Starpoints, complimentary in-room Internet access, or a complimentary beverage.

Front Of The Line
If by now you haven’t heard of Amex Front Of The Line, you should. Basically, your card hooks you up with the opportunity to advance purchase tickets to the hottest concerts, theatre productions, and special events across Canada. Since the Amex SPG Amex Card is, quite obviously, an Amex card, all of this is included.

One last thing I should mention is that by referring a friend to get an SPG Amex Card you’ll be able to receive 5,000 bonus Starpoints. So, keep me in mind when you sign up and the next time we’re hitting the slopes together, first round’s on me.
