Feeling the Zen at Wanderlust Whistler

We ditched the city last weekend for Whistler for the 3rd annual yoga, food, music and cultural extravaganza that is Wanderlust and are still feeling the positive vibes as a result. Check out why and plan on attending next year; your mind, body and soul will thank you for it

There was definitely no mistaking that Wanderlust had made its mark when we arrived after a smooth cruise along the coastal highway; you’d have to be blind not to notice all the lulu-clad ladies (and a few guys) rambling around the village, yoga mat in-tow.

A quick check-in at the media room had us all set and ready to explore the multitude of classes offered by this festival, and so it was off to try our hand at classes like HoopFit, Slackline Yoga, arm-balancing and more. And that barely scratches the surface of options.

With stunning bluebird skies overhead, we worked up a sweat alongside about a hundred other yogis at one of the festival’s many outdoor venues (Olympic Plaza being the main stage).

We were ready to cool off by the end of our hula hoop class, so the opportunity to do so by trying out a Standup Paddleboard Yoga class had us more than ready to tackle something new.

If you’ve tried paddleboarding, this definitely kicks the balance challenge up a notch. Try doing a downward dog with waves rippling beneath you and then getting ready to reposition into a high lunge without taking a plunge.

In between a weekend’s worth of classes, we had the chance to peruse the Kula Market where vendors had set up stalls featuring jewelry, artwork and clothing. Post-class, attendees could grab a custom smoothie, sample Kashi treats, and load up on other healthy offerings to keep energy levels up for whatever was on the schedule next.

Thursday night’s Wanderlust Spectacular saw hundreds gather to score a seat for an amazing collective show that kicked off festivities. It was basically a yoga circus complete with performances by the many talented teachers, musicians and performers in attendance.

Friday evening, we checked out ‘Winderlust’ for a cocktail hour featuring local BC wine and appetizers in a patio garden setting.  Hosted at the Westin Hotel‘s newly revamped FireRock Lounge, guests relaxed with live performances by local and visiting musicians like Matthew Schoening.

Saturday night’s Farm to Table Dinner saw festival goers whisked up the mountain via gondola to enjoy a chef-crafted meal with a breathtaking view.

Late nights at the festival were reserved for a handful of great free concerts (Charles Bradley, Aude Ray, The Soul Rebels) and beat sessions with celebrated DJs MCYogi, DJ HyFi and DJ Urn before it was time to head home for some rest and relaxation (necessary in order to gear up for another fully loaded day ahead).

Wanderlust Whistler 2015 is already on our schedule and it ought to be on yours too. Check it out here.
