Today’s Notable Young Professional recognized an opportunity following the 2007 mortgage crash in the US and started doing leasing, building management, and marketing for Dayan Group in Montreal. Oh, and he also owns YP hotspot Ryu Restaurant…
Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
I work for Dayan Group, a real estate management firm. I do leasing, building management, and take care of the marketing for the group. I also own Ryu restaurant.
Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
I started working here in 2007 after the mortgage crash in the States. I always knew that this would be the road I would take, to help the company grow and hopefully one day lead it.
What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The most challenging part is time management. Since I work on so many different projects in a day, it is hard to learn how to allocate the right amount of time to each one.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I have a wonderful mentor in my father, who’s a lawyer but has been doing real estate since ‘86.
I see myself working and learning from him still, and developing more projects together. I also want to own more restaurants and expand into the nightlife business.
What does success look like to you?
Success is a very complicated word; there is no limit to success. To me success is a mixture of achieving your goals, wealth, and a positive reputation in your field.
What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
I could say some of the larger transactions I have done, but to me I haven’t reached any real milestones that I am truly proud of. I set my goals and standards very high.
Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Never give up on what you believe in, take risks. Make decisions quickly; some will be good, others not so much. As long as the good ones surpass the bad ones, you’ve done a good job.
Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I support many charities; it is important to me because we have to learn to be grateful for what we have.
What to you is notable?
Following your dreams, perseverance, winning.
Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
iPhone.
