Canadian Single Mom Takes to Craigslist to Find Company for Christmas Dinner

Nobody should be alone for the holidays (unless they want to be, obviously).

Last week, this commercial highlighted that more than anything.

Now, Thirty-year-old Autumn Mazzitelli, a single mother of two from Victoria, is a real-life example that if there’s a will, there’s a way not to spend the holidays alone.

Not having any family of her own for the holidays, things were looking pretty bleak for awhile, as Mazzitelli would be left alone with her three-year-old son while her daughter visited her father.

Actively choosing not to be alone, Mazzitelli posted an ad on Craigslist three days ago (on a whim) in hopes that someone would volunteer to host her and her son for Christmas dinner.

Here’s a little piece of it:

Have you always wanted a daughter and grandson? Do you have a daughter and/or grandson but they live too far away to return for Christmas this year? Do you miss the pitter patter of little feet and adorably mispronounced words of a three year old boy? Do you need a hand with dishes after sharing Christmas dinner with a (slightly?) eccentric 30 year old single mother?

If you’ve answered yes to any of the above questions, look no further, you’ve found the perfect solution!,”

I would love to meet some beautiful humans to share Christmas Eve or Day with, hear some stories, sing and eat and laugh…. and actively choose not to be alone.

In the post, Mazzitelli says she is quirky and likes pillows, food, elephants, and cleaning.

Restoring our faith in humanity, the online response to her ad has been overwhelming. Not only has Mazzitelli received hundreds of messages from people across Canada, she’s been extended holiday invites from all over the world. People have also shared their own moving tales of what the holidays meant to them, and of  love, loss, and loneliness.

Now, the holiday season will be anything but lonely for Mazzitelli and her son, as they aim to pack in as much as possible.

They’ll attend three different Christmas dinners. They’ll spend Christmas Eve celebrating with a big family; Christmas morning will be spent with a senior who has nobody left who Mazzitelli connected with through her post. For Christmas lunch, they’ll hit a church gathering, and later, they’ll share Christmas dinner with two women who just lost their husbands.

Perhaps the best part about Mazzitelli’s post is that it’s inspired others to reach out so they also won’t have to be lonely this season.
