Queen West’s Downward Dog yoga centre is the type you’d travel across Toronto for – it is truly one of the best in the city.
Not only is Downward Dog one of the best yoga studios in Toronto, it’s also one of the oldest. One of the pioneering yoga studios in Toronto, Downward Dog Yoga Centre opened its doors back in 1997. Since, it has continued to offer instruction to students looking to practice and learn the principles of Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga, with a main focus to inspire and encourage Toronto students of yoga a sustainable lifelong practice.
But don’t expect a building full of yoga snobs – another best part of the yoga studio is that it welcomes all levels of participants. Classes range from solid foundational classes for beginners to dynamic and focused vinyasa-style classes for the more advanced. Although they cater to all levels, most of the classes at Downward Dog are physically vigorous.
The Toronto yoga studio also offers some specialty classes, such as Restorative and Meditation. The studio also has classes with music – sometimes with live musicians. If you’re a new student, the yoga studio offers an unlimited month of yoga for only $40 (one of the best deals in Toronto).
The one thing that the studio doesn’t have is hot yoga, but they do maintain a temperature in the classes between 28-30 degrees Celsius.
Thanks to its prime Queen West piece of real estate, once you’re done yoga, a delicious brunch is just a short walk away at one of the surrounding restaurants (which are among some of the city’s best). The Toronto yoga studio also offers some of the city’s best retreats – both local and in Costa Rica.
The change rooms definitely aren’t the most luxurious as far as Toronto yoga studios are concerned, but the overall vibe and the quality of your workout (you’ll feel it days later) make this a non-issue.
