Best Toronto Sports Bar: The Derby

If you think the term ‘cozy sports bar’ is a bit of an oxymoron, this single-room Dundas Street west go-to will definitely change your opinion. The Derby is home to an impressive collection of sports memorabilia that the owners have collected over the years, making it a neutral safe haven for sports fans of all beliefs. And with four large high definition flat screens, The Derby can easily accommodate up to four different sporting events at any given time, playing everything from the NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL, and English Premiere League — with particular attention paid to the local boys from the Jays, Raptors, TFC, and Leafs.

This Toronto sports bar has an impressive selection of ales, lagers, and ciders to choose from, with eight beers on tap serving local, Ontario, Quebec, and import beers from breweries like Beau’s, Steamwhistle, Grolsch, Mill St., and Amsterdam — which all pair well with everything on the menu. And although the menu is small compared to other sports bars, it boasts some modern twists on old pub classics, with most of the ingredients coming from nearby vendors. All of the bread comes from the Portuguese bakery down the street and the meats are all bought from the local butcher. The menu features homemade recipes and a fresh take on North American pub fare and consists of handmade burgers, applewood smoked wings, Quebec-style poutines, BBQ chicken club sandwich and an array of nacho platters that will have anyone’s mouth watering upon arrival at the table.

So, if you’re in the Dundas West area or you’re just looking for a cozy place to watch the game head to The Derby and you’ll see why it’s easily one of the best sports bars in Toronto. Keep in mind that Saturdays are very busy for Premier League football matches so remember to arrive early to ensure you can get a seat.
