Today’s Notable Young Professional is Anna Murray, who will be speaking at the next Young Women of Influence Evening Series on May 15, 2013 at the Westin in Calgary. We sat down with her to talk about her career and advice she would have for other young professionals…
Where do you work? Talisman Energy Inc.
What do you do? Senior Advisor, Corporate Affairs.
Homegrown in Calgary or Transplant from _____? Raised in Vancouver and Adelaide. I have spent the last seven years living in Geneva, New York, Shanghai, Toronto, and on and off in Tanzania and the Dominican Republic.
One thing we might not know about your profession? We strategically manage socio-political risk in order to mitigate barriers to growth. One of the ways we do this is by maintaining leading community relations, corporate responsibility and ethics programs through alignment with recognized international best practice standards.
Best career tip for other YPs? Travel, and travel again, and, once you’re done, travel some more. International exposure is one of the more professionally valuable and personally meaningful things you can do.
Most common mistake you see other YPs make? Focusing too much on money as opposed to dedicating balanced time to family and giving back to the community.
How do you find a happy balance between striving for success and being happy with where you are? My husband and daughter are daily reminders to focus on the insurmountable gratitude I have for the ‘present’ moment. They also motivate me to strive for success so that I can positively contribute to our family.
Favourite restaurant in the city? Mercato.
