Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
I am a partner at Lucreative Media, a Toronto marketing agency. My role is director of social media and online content and communications. We have recently launched a side company called GroupRenos.com, where we are applying the group buying business model and elevating it to the next level. We are working with the most reputable contractors and businesses in Toronto and the GTA to offer homeowners thousands of dollars off their next home-related project. Our goal is to go national in the near future.
Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
I started working with Lucreative Media as a freelance writer to help them with their SEO services. I moved to Toronto with little knowledge as to where I would end up and am so grateful with the route my career has taken. Learning and growing with this company has changed my outlook on life, business and how enjoyable work can actually be. I wake up everyday grateful for the position I am in.
What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part of what I do is pretty much everything. I love the roles I play, the people I work with and my responsibilities. The most challenging part would be finding the time to balance work and my hobbies, such as writing my blog ImCharmingYou.com.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I hope to have helped my company advance into a new realm of success. I know that no matter what my job is, I will still be living in Toronto! I love it here.
What does success look like to you?
Happiness and satisfaction in the work I do everyday … and a Louis Vuitton purse.
What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
The most memorable milestone in my career was the day the company asked me to come on as partner, not an employee.
Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
If something doesn’t feel right, leave. Since being in Toronto I have worked for several awful people who felt that because I was an employee, they had the right to treat me as a lower entity. No amount of money is worth your self-respect. It is better to work for less pay and do something that makes you happy. Life is too short to be miserable.
Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I use my blog as a platform to support local charities. While all are equally important, I’m inclined to those who’s efforts go to support children who may be sick or require medical equipment or attention that their families cannot afford, such as Easter Seals.
What to you is notable?
Notable to me is the ability to advance oneself while maintaining personal integrity. This involves always treating others with respect and avoiding people who stand as roadblocks without apology. It’s your life at the end of the day and it will only be as “notable” as you make it.
Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
Just made the switch from Blackberry to iPhone 4s! Best. Decision. Ever.
