20 Relationship Milestones That Deserve a Celebration

You already celebrate the big moments in a relationship – like the first kiss, meeting the parents, or saying “I love you.”
But there’s plenty of other small victories that happen along the way that often go overlooked, from sharing a photo together on social media for the first time,to supporting each other’s sports teams. And while they may seem small, they’re kind of a big deal.
So here’s our definitive checklist of everything you will go through in a new relationship that’s worth a cheers.
You Pass the Alcohol Test
You’ve been hanging out for a few weeks and your drunken texts or phone calls haven’t scared the other person away.

You Have “The Talk”
You both get the courage to actually talk about what’s going on between the two of you. You’re not just hooking up anymore; now you like each other.

Introduce Them to Your Friends
Aside from showing your friends photos of your new beau, they’ve never actually met him, so they’re starting to question the existence of your new “relationship.” So before you can actually say that you’re dating someone, your friends need to give their stamp of approval first.

Add a Photo With Them on Social Media
Adding selfies and photos of your cat every day is easy. But sharing a photo of you and your partner for the first time? Now that’s hard. Because once you add a photo together, people will actually know you’re in a relationship. This makes things as official as changing your relationship status on Facebook.

Leave a Toothbrush at Their Place
You’ve stopped brushing your teeth with your finger, or chewing minty gum first thing in the morning. You’ve now upgraded to an actual toothbrush that you’ve left at their place.

There’s No More Awkward Silences
You no longer feel the need to talk constantly so things don’t seem awkward when you hang out. You feel comfortable just hanging out with them and enjoy their company.

You Can Fully Be Yourself Around Them
You don’t feel like you need to wear makeup to bed anymore, and you’re comfortable sleeping in ratty old sweats. You feel so comfortable that it’s okay that you fall asleep with your mouth open and wake up with dried drool on your face.

Go on a Vacation Together
You survived the delayed flights, the turbulence, and the crying babies without any fights. This is your first time away together and you seriously enjoy the alone time and not having any roommates or friends interrupting.

Bodily Functions Are No Longer Kept a Secret
Going on vacation together also means sharing a very small space for the first time. So what goes on in the washroom is no longer kept a secret.

You Groom Each Other
You have no problem plucking a stray hair off his back, and in return he has no problem popping your pimples.

You Have Sex With the Lights On
By now you know every imperfection of each other’s bodies so you no longer feel embarrassed when the lights stay on during sex.

You Take Care of Each Other When You’re Sick
If you’re going to love them at their best, you’ll have to love them at their worst. There’s nothing quite like rubbing your guy’s sweaty back while he has the flu to bring the two of you closer.

You’re No Longer Afraid of Offending Each Other
When you ask him how you look in an outfit, he actually feels comfortable telling you the truth. Even if it means a potential argument.

You Share a Netflix Password
It’s not quite like owning a dog, but it’s the closest thing the two of you have to owning something together. And you’re proud of it.

You Can Successfully Order Food or Drinks for Them on Their Behalf
You’ve memorized each other’s food and drink orders, so you know exactly what they’ll enjoy when you go out and they’re not there yet.

You No Longer Feel Nervous or Awkward Around Their Parents
You can leave him alone with your parents and he’ll be able to relax and carry on a conversation for hours. He also feels so comfortable he has no problem shooting your brother or dad a text every now and then.

Listing Each Other as an Emergency Contact
You no longer list your mom or dad as your emergency contact and you write down each other’s names without a second thought.

You Only Use Nicknames When Speaking to Them
You don’t even have first names anymore, you just call each other your latest nicknames. He’s so used to you calling him “Honey Bunny” that when you do use his first name, he doesn’t know who you’re talking about.

You Support Their Favourite Sports Teams
You’ve given up trying to avoid watching sports with him, and you now know everything there is to know about his favourite team, the OKC Thunder. (They play soccer right?) Even if you have no clue what’s going on, you cheer for his team regardless.

You Realize You Can’t Imagine Life Without Them
One day you look at this person and you realize that you love every flaw and imperfection about them and that you can’t imagine life without them.
