On Our Radar: F*ck Cancer

Fuck Cancer – their name is cool and what they are doing is even f*cking cooler.

Canadian natives Yael Cohen Braun and Julie Greenbaum’s organization Fuck Cancer have merged and are running under the unanimously approved motto of telling cancer to go f*ck itself.

The idea behind their mission statement is pretty simple – 90 per cent of cancers that are detected in stage one are curable.

As a generation with floodgates of information and technology at our disposal it’s our obligation to not only educate those around us about early detection, but to also engage in dialogue to change the way people think, act, and talk about cancer.

By building on existing digital platforms the organization has created campaigns focusing on preventative outreach to educate communities about how and why they should lead risk reductive lifestyles – an important dialogue F Cancer Events have engaged young adults in at charity events throughout North America.

And Fuck Cancer is coming full circle to Vancouver.

March 21st Stephen Amell, from the cast of Arrow, will be hosting the event at FIVESIXTY to create a forum for young adults who have been affected by the disease in any way and raise money in a unique way for programs that support early detection, prevention, and emotional support.

Rather than a ticket, entrance to the event is in the form of a t-shirt that reads “FUCK CANCER” in various colours, each one representing a different ribbon.

Come out for a great time and an even better cause – and let’s all stick it to cancer.
