In an age when everyone seems to be filtering, editing, and altering away their actual appearance one social media picture at a time, it’s refreshing to see someone who represents “real life” on Instagram.
And that’s because it’s so rare – particularly when it comes to young Hollywood (especially those who make hundreds of thousands per post).
Proving once again that she’s one of the most real and genuine celebrities out there, Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley has posted a picture on Instagram that eases (some of) our insecurities.
This isn’t the first time the actress has highlighted the smoke and mirrors of Instagram and the impact it can have on one’s self-esteem. To celebrate reaching two million followers, Ridley posted a picture of her in all her glammed-out Hollywood glory that had been taken at the Oscars’ Vanity Fair party. Meanwhile, she was sitting at home behind her computer screen writing an essay and rocking spot cream all over her face:
“ALMOST 2 MILLION FOLLOWERS WHAT?! I’m currently sat writing an essay covered in spot cream drinking mint tea but no one wants to see that so instead here’s me looking all fancy pants at the post Oscars Vanity Fair pardeeeee!,” she captions the shot.
It didn’t take long for her to change her mind, however.
“ACTUALLY why not!” she captions alongside a shot of her with her hair pulled back, glasses on, and dotted in spot cream. She hints in the hashtags that she did put a filter on it. The difference between her natural and real-life shot compared to that of one of the Kardashians is that a Kardashian would have hired someone to perfectly dot the spot cream and create that “no-makeup” makeup look.
Ridley, however, couldn’t be more unapologetically honest.
This comes just days after Kristen Bell gave us all a dose of reality that she too was an actual person who struggles with very real issues.
At a time when a growing number of people are jumping on the Instagram facade-revealing bandwagon (facilitated, in part, by the infamous Australian model who quit Instagram to expose the truth behind her shots), most of us still curate our Instagram content more than ever.
It’s interesting to note that, at the time of writing, Ridley was down to 1.9 million followers – proving that people may indeed prefer the facade.
